Gideon, dear boy, your life was taken far too soon. How you suffered for your music and how miraculously your manuscripts survived the Holocaust—saved at great personal risk by those who understood.

Your unbreakable human spirit endures, giving us inspiration of the highest degree. You showed us how art can transcend even the darkest hours of our history.

Eighty years later, as we approach the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz—the place where we lost you amongst so many others—the ripples of your actions have reached me.

Learning what you wrote in those unimaginable times—yes, it broke me—but it also gave me a strength I never knew I had.

It has been nothing short of an honour to compose a tribute to you. New music has been born, carrying your surviving notes and melodies forward.

On Sunday, December 1st, we held a candlelit concert in your honour at Beth Shalom. Candles illuminated the auditorium, shining bright for you and for those lost but never forgotten.

As our poet laureate @richard_c_bower spoke, it was as if the whole world had stopped for a moment as his words filled every corner of the room and touched every soul, a deep reflective silence ensued.

Then, on Friday, December 6th—what would have been your 105th birthday—the worldwide publication of 'Homage to Gideon Klein' was released, ensuring your legacy endures for all to hear.

Following the premier performance, applause raptured throughout the full Pears Auditorium as your life is celebrated and remembered.

The last words you wrote were: "Don’t forget about me" – Gideon Klein.

And, I won’t forget. Thank you.

🕯️ Commemorating 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz- a timely reminder for humanity in a world which still seems to struggle with conflict and division.

🎹 Honouring young composer Gideon Klein, taken far to soon but never forgotten, with a new composition including bars from music manuscript which survived the Holocaust at life threatening risk.

✍️ Richard C. Bower @richard_c_bower and his spoken word poetry was nothing short of the most exceptional human expression I think I have ever witnessed in my life.

A truly special Candlelit Concert will take place

A truly special Candlelit Concert will take place on Sunday 1st December at The National Holocaust Centre & Museum, to honour Gideon Klein—a remarkable young composer whose music defied the darkness of Auschwitz. Despite the circumstances, Gideon continued to compose, and his manuscripts survived at life-threatening risk to those who carried them.

His story is one of courage, resilience, and the triumph of the human spirit through art.

Earlier this year, I was commissioned to create a new composition inspired by Gideon’s 1943 Piano Sonata, a work he wrote amidst the suffering of Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. I’m deeply honoured to give an exclusive performance of this piece once again for this concert.

This event will also feature internationally acclaimed author and poet laureate Richard C. Bower as we come together to combine poetry and piano in a unique collaborative performance.

🕯️ Eighty of the candles illuminating The Pears Auditorium will represent the 80th Anniversary of Auschwitz’s Liberation. This moment offers a chance to reflect—not only on the past—but on our present, as these lessons remain crucial in a world still grappling with conflict and division. This concert is an invitation to remember and discover hope in the enduring power of creativity and the human spirit. 🌍🙏🏻
